PREAMBLE

The Rose of Sharon Ministries is an evangelical, Christian ministry, that ministers in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, through a balance of evangelism and works of mercy. Ministry takes place both nationally in South Africa and Internationally in: The People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong); Scotland, The Republic of Ireland; Northern Ireland; England and the United States of America. The Rose of Sharon will pursue its aims and objectives in any other countries that might be identified in the future. The ministry team is comprised of the director, Gavin Campbell and his wife, Desiree, both in full-time ministry: they are assisted by Christian volunteers from within South Africa and abroad, all of whom are born again (converted) believers. The main thrust of the ministry in terms of its evangelistic and missions endeavours is directed at the unsaved, the weak, the poor and the oppressed. Special attention is given to young people, children and destitute old people, but others with perceived needs are included.

The Rose Of Sharon Ministries responds in obedience to God's word to play out its part in the Lord’s great commission of Matthew 28:19-20 and to reach out in a demonstration of the love of Jesus in practical, hands on ways to those whom the bible identifies and calls on Christians in such scriptures as James 2:14-17 to reach out to. Rose Of Sharon is constituted as an evangelical Christian ministry not for gain.

The vision and mission statement along with the structures outlined below attempt to articulate our current understanding of God's calling on the ministry. We acknowledge the many ways in which God directs His work: through His Word, the Holy Bible; through the prompting of The Holy Spirit; through prayer and the fellowship of Christian believers and through Godly order, discipline and structures. We honour what God has done through the ministry over the past nineteen years and seek diligently to continue to be guided according to His will and purposes. as recorded in his word

THE VISION

Matt 28:19-20

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." NIV

James 2:14-17

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." NIV

The vision for Rose Of Sharon was born from the call heard by Gavin in these and other scriptures in 1987.

THE MISSION STATEMENT

Rose of Sharon’s main focus is the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ and therefore we go out into the world and preach his glorious gospel of salvation among the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them all that they should obey. Matt 28:19-20. Furthermore, we regard it our responsibility, in terms of James 2:14-17 to demonstrate the love of Jesus in practical, hands on ways to those with exceptional material needs, irrespective of where in the world they are domiciled. These are people whom God may from time to time direct us to minister to through evangelism and discipleship, or by providing support and resources:

a) To assist them to overcome immediate desperate needs

b) To assist them to pursue a committed, Christian lifestyle.

c) To provide Spiritual leadership.

d) To provide Bibles, books, tracts, teaching material, audio and video tapes, CD’s and DvD’s for the purpose of encouraging and developing spiritual growth

while - motivating and leading Christian leaders to evangelise, disciple, serve and plant churches and Sunday schools.

MINISTRY GOALS

  1. To continue with and consolidate Rose Of Sharon's existing, extensive ministry which presently reaches into:
  1. Urban townships, slums, impoverished informal settlements and remote, rural villages across South Africa. These are situated over an area spanning a distance of more than three thousand miles.
  2. The persecuted underground church, the abused children in state-run orphanages and the unconverted in the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong.
  3. Numerous churches, Sunday schools, Christian schools, secular schools, youth groups, bible study or home cell groups, businessmen's groups and the lives of many individuals, all with whom the team interacts in the course of pursuing its aims and objectives worldwide.
  1. To expand the ministry of evangelism in order to reach ever-greater numbers of unsaved people by:
  1. Holding more frequent evangelistic outreaches in the national mission fields and internationally in the countries mentioned above and in countries yet to be identified.
  2. Accepting more invitations to preach the Gospel and to teach God's word world -wide.
  1. To broaden the prayer and financial base of support for the ministry by:
  1. Prayerfully seeking the goodwill and support of Christian: churches, home cell and bible-study groups, aid organisations, schools and colleges, businesses and individuals.
  2. Undertaking fund-raising projects and initiatives within the extended Christian community only.

THE FOCUS OF THE WORK IS ON

Evangelism, discipleship, and church planting Through a ministry of presence and preaching the Word of God, the ministry team works to lead others to Christ and to plant new churches or nurture newly planted and other churches and Sunday schools with extreme needs in poor communities. Also to bring the word of God to His established church whenever the opportunity may arise.
The evangelistic outreach of several Christian leaders in poor communities Is assisted through the provision of resources and/or spiritual instruction and counselling for the members of their churches to equip them to reach out or minister to those in need in their own fields of ministry. Rose of Sharon continues its involvement in about sixty churches world-wide. The team was itself involved in planting four churches thus far.
Works of mercy The team develops and maintains an extensive network of supply of resources including seasonal gifts at Christmas and Easter, bibles, literature, food, clothing, building materials, fuel for cooking, soap and basic medication etc. Rose Of Sharon provides the logistical infrastructure to cope with the collection, handling, storage and eventual redistribution of these resources. The distribution is done personally by members of the team or associate Christian leaders at no cost whatsoever to recipients, who are not able to provide for themselves. The ministry is therefore essentially one of giving.
Visitation, prayer and crisis relief Rose Of Sharon team members prayerfully seek out and visit individuals with exceptional needs in order to provide support, comfort, encouragement, pastoral care, prayer and crisis relief.
Administration Attention is given to the administrative and operational needs of the ministry e.g. communication, planning, bookkeeping and vehicle maintenance etc.
Coping with change We continue to discern God's call through prayer and persistent personal contact with those whom we serve and those with whom we work closely in ministry elsewhere. The ministry team seeks God's wisdom in helping to meet the changing needs of those whom we serve.
Building of churches and providing playground equipment at places of safety Church buildings need to be erected and places of safety provided to which abandoned, abused or neglected children or destitute old people can come when they have need of short term asylum. To this end, playground equipment has and will continue to be provided for these children at church sites. This encourages children to come in off the streets where they might fall victim to paedophiles and witch doctors who prey upon them for sexual purposes or to put them to death and to use their little organs and body parts in black magic potions.
The development of church and ministry links To enhance its efficiency, Rose Of Sharon continually seeks to network with national and international Churches, Christian Ministries, Bible study/house church groups, Christian aid organisations, schools, businesses and individual Christians that are the sole providers of its funding needs.

MINISTRY NEEDS AND OTHER MATTERS FOR URGENT PRAYER

With a view to fulfilling the goals described above, the Lord has faithfully answered the many prayers for the following, with certain prayer requests yet to be provided for :-

Ministry Need:

New Premises:

Answered: In light of the extremely dangerous situation prevailing in the area of the Apple Orchards mission farm due to rampant, violent, crime it became a matter of extreme urgency to find a new, permanent and safer venue to which to relocate the Rose of Sharon base. Suitable premises to the south of the city of Pretoria were identified and the ministry base was relocated to this venue.

Pending: It is a matter of some urgency to find the necessary financial resources required to settle the outstanding balance on the mortgage of this property, which amounts to approximately £10,000.00, (R100,000.00), to avoid the exceptionally high interest rates of 13%.

Transport:

Answered: - 4x4 Vehicle - The ministry's previous 4x4 vehicle eventually became unserviceable after 150 000 miles of really heavy work over extremely rough terrain. Some of the areas in which we work cannot be accessed by a standard, on road vehicle. This urgent need was met in December 2005, by God’s grace, when a relatively new, 2001 model, 4x4 Mercedes ML 320 vehicle was provided by Christians in Scotland and Ireland. The faithful support of our Christian family has enabled the work of Rose of Sharon to continue unabated for nineteen years to date. (£20 000.00)

Answered: - Trailer - A new, off-road trailer was acquired to complement the existing lightweight trailer, which is unsuitable for use on off road conditions. (£2000.00)

Security:

Answered: Installation and monitoring of a security alarm system at the new ministry base was acquired and installed for the periods of time that we are away on evangelistic crusades, deputation work or outreach.

Pending: Need to complete installation of burglar bars and security doors.

Workshop:

The workshop still needs to be wired for electricity supply to the building. Although the ministry workshop has been scaled down, it still requires equipment and a number of other essential power tools.

Video Editing and audio recording Equipment:

Answered: Rose of Sharon's entry into the field of producing and distributing audio CD’s and DVD video documentaries and teaching and sermon tapes, necessitates the acquisition of certain computer hard and software and other electronic equipment for the purposes of production and reproduction of these DVD documentaries, CD’s and tapes. Air Conditioning:

Answered: A new air conditioning unit was installed at the base and has improved our productivity by not having to work in the extreme temperatures.

Carport:

Answered: The garage at the new ministry base is required for the purposes of storing resources and housing the workshop. Therefore a carport was needed for the protection of the ministry vehicle against the elements, especially hailstorms etc. A carport was erected in 2005 and has proven its worth during recent heavy hailstorms.

A Book About Rose of Sharon:

Gavin has for a number of years been encouraged to write a book about his testimony and the miraculous work of God through the Rose of Sharon Ministries over nearly twenty years. Many Christian feel that such a book would be of great value in encouraging other Christians. It will serve also to publicise the work of Rose of Sharon on a much wider scale among churches of the world than personal contact or visits alone could accomplish. The first two chapters of the book are complete and it is hoped the book will be completed by December 2007.

Bible Drive:

Answered: One thousand one hundred Bibles in eight ethnic languages have already been provided for poor Christians @ £5.00 apiece at a total of £5500.00.

Pending: Another one thousand four hundred bibles are still needing to be purchased to fill the initial quota of 2,500 @ £3.75 apiece at £5 250.00 for poor Christians who cannot afford to buy their own.

Church Building:

Answered: Funds provided for Church building at Dennilton which is now completed. £3000.00

Pending: Funds required for completion of Dhobo Church and the whole of the Khalakhala Church £10 000.00

Personal Needs:

Health & Protection:

Please continue to pray for protection for Gavin & Des as they constantly enter volatile and dangerous mission fields and areas in which malaria is endemic. Pray also for Gavin’s adult onset diabetes to be brought under control and for Des who is suffering from arthritis.

Pension fund:

The Campbells still do not earn salaries and are therefore unable to contribute to a pension fund for their old age.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Without the participation, goodwill and generosity of our extended Christian family the work simply cannot be done. We therefore appeal to you to consider prayerfully how you might become involved in the support of this vital work of God among the lost, the weak, the oppressed, the persecuted and the poor. We need encouragement to keep us fired up under extremely difficult and dangerous circumstances, financial assistance in order to spread and ease the burden of support; and prayer cover to make it all possible.

Should you feel led to become part of our support team (3 John 7), we rejoice and welcome you. We have been praying for your support and through it you too will be blessed (Deut 15:10).
